send out your ray of sunshine

never say never

Posted in music, television by Jenny on September 5, 2009

I really, really, really like this song by The Fray.

Some things we don’t talk about,
Rather do without and just hold the smile
Falling in and out of love
Ashamed and proud of, together all the while

You can never say never
While we don’t know when
But time and time again
Younger now than we were before

Don’t let me go

I will be your guardian when all is crumbling
I’ll steady your hand

Don’t let me go

I remember once, during a road trip in America last year, the whole gang was listening to my music player. After I played Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’, one of my friends said, “Jenny, can you please play something that people actually listen to?!”

I switched the next song to a Jay Chou one without saying anything, but I was pretty upset. I thought everyone loved a bit of Michael Jackson..after all, I believe most of us grew up to his music?

I started listening to MJ before I even understood what he was actually singing about. My sisters were big fans of his, and when I was five, I told my eldest sister that I hated the album cover for Dangerous because it freaked me out. I also remember watching my second sister trying to emulate MJ’s legendary moonwalk and failing miserably at it. That was funny. I remember watching MJ’s Black Or White music video with utter awe and envy because he was dancing all around the world. I swore that someday, I will travel around the world like MJ too. I later learnt that it was just CG, but still, his music videos impacted a whole era of pop culture.

I wonder where our copy of Dangerous went. Hmm.

I would like to live forever. – Michael Jackson

He was such a kind and gentle man. So misunderstood and maligned by the evil public and media. He never got a chance to grow up in the appropriate social manner no thanks to his abusive childhood and his possession of an insane level of fame and money. Instead of viewing Neverland as a place for him to redeem his childhood and as a place to provide happiness for children with special needs, people chose to see it as a creepy place, when there was nothing harmful about it in the very first place.

It makes me really mad how those hypocrites are mourning him now and finally realising that it’s all about his musical genius at the end of the day, when they used to say such disgusting mean things about him.

I wish there were more people who sincerely reached out to help him when he was still alive. Only Dame Elizabeth Taylor was there for him.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the document [Jackson's will] —which will no doubt be the centerpiece of a lengthy and ferocious legal battle in months to come — divides the superstar’s estate among his mother, his three children (Prince Michael, Paris-Michael and Prince Michael II) and at least one charity.

Ozzy Osubon Kurazi Turain!

Posted in music, television by Jenny on June 3, 2009

Watch 9-year-old guitar genius Yuto Miyazawa, who hails from Tokyo, rock out to Ozzy Osbourne’s hit Crazy Train. He is sooooooo adorable with his shell-shocked face when Ozzy made the surprise appearance.

Ellen: How long have you been playing guitar?

Miyazawa: ええ、三歳のごろからで、ええ、お父さんがやってのを見て、やります。ええ、お父さんは、下手です!(I started playing the guitar when I was 3 after I saw my dad playing it. My dad is bad at it!)

The latest episode of 30 Rock (S03E22) had me laughing so hard I nearly teared. Tina Fey hit the nail right on the head when she became a relationship advisor to distraught women.

Troubled lady: My boyfriend has been acting really weird ever since he got promoted at his job…

Liz Lemon: *cuts in* Yeah, he thinks he deserves a vajayjay upgrade. He doesn’t, he’s not Tom Brady. Shut it down! Deal breaker!

His Fierceness

Posted in television by Jenny on May 7, 2009

He is so gay and fierce all at the same time.

And LOL at Kris Allen freaking out about playing guitar together with Slash. I looved his song choice of Come Together..but it might be because I’m a big Beatles fan. Kris Allen is soo likeable and humble.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Week

Posted in television by Jenny on May 4, 2009

The week for Adam Lambert to totally pwn all the other contestants has finally cometh..not like he hasn’t pwned them already.

This week’s mentor for the top four will be Slash, the famed lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses. How bizzare is this? Slash will be the most un-American Idol guest to ever grace the show. Must watch, yes/yes? 10pm, Wednesday on Ch5.

I hope Slash breaks his guitar on one of the contestants or blow cigarette smoke into their faces. Any theatrics from the guitar god will be great.

It seems that the hype around Britian’s Got Talent always have something to do with singing..but check out this awesome 20-year-old who was once fancied by Arsenal.

I was totally expecting him to rock this week out in some kind of hot disco fervour but what a pleasant surprise. Really, really fantastic singing.

AI Top 7

Posted in television by Jenny on April 18, 2009

It has been announced that the theme for next week’s Idol competition will be Disco Week.

YAY! I love retro disco music! Adam Lambert will tear that shit up. I hope he goes all disco queen and performs in drag. He’ll still be hot and talented either way. He needs to do a Guns N’ Roses song like, now. Am I a fan? No. Is he entertaining to watch? Hell yeah! The musical-theatre veteran obviously has an edge over the others thanks to his background. The confidence he exudes on stage (and to do the things he does on stage..one needs a crap load of confidence) can only be explained with his experience in Broadway.

But I’m getting so jaded and cynical of the whole AI circus. The show is so obviously scripted..from how Adam tends to appear only towards the end of show (producers know everyone is waiting for him..so they will stay through the whole show for him = better ratings), to how the judges ‘argue’ over who to save from exit, to how they are told who to pimp to maintain the show’s sustainability. Allison Iraheta was utter shit and yet the judges cooed all over her. Just..NO.

Adam’s performance this week was  just the same old Steven Tyler schtick. What really caught my attention though was Kris Allen’s rendition of Falling Slowly from the movie Once. I <3 this song so much. Awesome.

꽃보다 남자

Posted in pop culture, television by Jenny on April 15, 2009

Just when I thought I have totally outgrown my juvenile past of being a rabid fangirl, 꽃보다 남자 (Boys Over Flowers) comes along and brings me all googly eye again over its gorgeous lead actors.

I always thought that the Japanese version was the best ever and nothing could possibly top it, so I was very skeptical when news of the Korean version came out. But now, at episode 16, I am totally floored by KBS’s wonderful interpretation of the hit manga.

The production values of the Korean version rivals the Japanese version, and the best thing is that all four Korean actors playing F4 are drop-dead gorgeous. ALL FOUR! The lead, Lee Min Ho, looks like a god-given combination of Jerry Yan and Takuya Kimura. Towering above everyone else at 1.86m, he also looks the best with Domyoji Tsukasa’s trademark curly hair. Matsumoto Jun got pwned, big time.

Shooting of a fourth version by China is apparently now underway, but um, yeah. I don’t think I’ll be too interested in it.
